England to Launch the European Championship 2028 Journey at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

The English squad will embark on their Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they attain the expected passage for a tournament taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not staged an England men’s match since May 2016, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to welcome the England side for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.

The team are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their last-16 tie would be held at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean commencing the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Tournament Launch and Protest

The event was inaugurated at an event in central London on Wednesday night. Senior figures from European football’s governing body and the organizing bodies were confronted as they approached the venue by around fifty activists, who called for the Israeli team to be expelled from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Signs were held up with phrases stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Fixture List

The inaugural fixture of the tournament will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a fixture that will feature the Welsh team if they qualify.

The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the championship match, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.

It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be used for Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to households and help engage a more diverse set of audiences.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are due to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be reserved for any that do not reach the tournament through the standard process.

Venues and Elimination Phase

Villa Park and The North London arena finalize the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches staged at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a host city last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.

Official Statement

“This will be a competition for the fans and a festival of everything we value about the game – its passion and ability to foster unity.”

More than three million admissions, a unprecedented number for a UEFA European Championship, are anticipated to be made available to attendees.
