Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
