The President Calls Families of Attacked National Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
White House Offer
The president stated he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president addressed the press. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Attendees gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to assist policing efforts in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that teachers desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the head of her former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Memorial details for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Steps and Government Adjustments
Officials have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event caused the administration to halt asylum processing and cease issuing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor the governor stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on a news show that she also intended to speak to his relatives.
Impact of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” Morrisey told the audience at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
